"A Furnace Full of God" is transcendent, the best Camino book written to date...Rebekah Scott has written a classic."
--  George Greenia, founder of the Institute for Pilgrimage Studies.
"A Furnace Full of God: A Holy Year on the Camino de Santiago" is a memoir of expatriate life in a tiny town on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage path. Years in the writing, it's the story of an American writer who moved with her wise-cracking English husband to Spain to "live the dream" and integrate into the slow rhythms of a farming town on the Meseta. Here are the pilgrims who stayed with them at their "Peaceable Kingdom" farmstead: saints, sinners, lunatics, nuns, and bums; Here are the villagers who made them welcome in Moratinos. And behind it all is the voice of Rebekah, the author and instigator who tossed aside a promising career in journalism to pursue this foolishness.
"A Furnace Full of God,"  247 pages, soft cover.

Furnace full of God! Loved it!

Loved the writing style and the open heart of the author. Thank you for your insights. Always a pleasure to shop at Ivars store. I remember my first purchase of credential and shell and the excitement of receiving them. Shipping costs to Australia hold things back though. Again, Thanks.

Casa Ivar handles all the "Camino business" for this home!

Just a few days ago, I had to cancel an Amazon order for guidebooks as "someone" in the family had not gotten that memo. And now, just a few days later, I have our order in hand and in good condition. But, about this book... for what it is worth, I am not a reader of Camino literature. I suppose this is because I see the Camino as a deeply personal experience and always wish to see it fresh again as I experience. But, but... I was tempted to read FFOG because Moratinos reminds me so much of places that I have lived and worked in the Dakotas and Intermountain high deserts of the American West. And, it was my understanding that Rebekah was chronicling the place first and Camino second. I bit - - and I bought it at Ivar's to get the signed copy with Peaceable's sello, to go along with a credenciale I have from a treasured day in memory at the Peaceable in 2014. The book must have been a ****** to write as it is so easy to read. Rebekah's voice is completely her own but her style calls to mind other real masters. The prose is as crystal clear as Stegner's, efficient and yet compelling in the power of description. Also here is a deep sense of place and spiritual grounding, a combination one could only find elsewhere and accessible in Wendell Berry. And then there is a playfulness, a sense of wonder that recalled to mind "The River Why" by Duncan. What is here on the pages is a spirit alive - - one willing to get scars and calluses on the way to wisdom. The reader will not be preached at; they will be enlarged. Brendan O'C

Very Enjoyable Book

I loved reading this book and it was a bonus receiving an autographed copy with the Peaceable Kingdom’s stamp inside. It’s well written, with each chapter almost able to stand alone as a short story.
