Camino de Santiago Metro Map

The Metro Map of the Caminos de Santiago in the Iberian Peninsula was designed in 2022 based on the Caminos described by the Spanish Federation of Associations of Friends of the Camino de Santiago (FEAACS), and using its same naming conventions. With a format similar to that of a metro network, each path has a unique and characteristic color, and the start and end towns of the stages are represented as metro stations, with Santiago de Compostela being the main station.

Starting from a blank sheet of paper, the objective of this work was to create a map with a format that was clearly legible and easy to interpret, and that at the same time had a great visual impact. The idea arose from the observation of various wall maps existing in hostels on the French Camino de Santiago, although the final objective was to represent all the existing Jacobean itineraries. For this, the information obtained on the FEAACS website was of invaluable help.

The design guidelines used to make the map were the same as those followed by most existing subway networks, the most famous precursor being the London Underground of 1933. Using a specific design program for this purpose, after making several models and after meticulous detail work, little by little the pieces of what had become a true puzzle began to fit together. The final result is a beautiful map that perfectly meets the desired expectations.

After printing a few copies of a first version of the map as a test, the final version is printed and distributed on 150 g/m2 coated paper, so that it can be used both as a stage planner and as a decorative poster.

The poster is shipped in a tube.
